A perpetual calendar caliber is a mechanical movement that knows how many days each month has, including leap years. Knowing that February has 29 days in a leap year might seem insignificant, but the mechanical complexity behind it is considerable. The B19 perpetual calendar caliber incorporates an additional set of components programmed to know exactly when that extra day occurs within the four-year cycle. To further complicate matters, the five calendar indications (day, date, month, moon phase, and leap year) advance instantaneously from December 31 to January 1.
