“What I like most when I do a portrait is to capture that spark, that something that makes us unique,” explains the project’s artistic director. In his opinion, “to arouse the viewer’s emotion, nothing should distract his gaze from the essential. What fascinates me about Kylian, beyond his creativity, his virtuosity and the perfection of his art, is his passion, his intelligence and the inner strength that drives him”. Petronio has therefore focused on the intensity of the athlete’s look, dressing him in a timeless, unadorned aesthetic.

In the images, Mbappé appears relaxed, calm, elegant but without artifice, qualities that, on the field, he knows how to combine to perfection with bursts of genius and speed. In this sense, Hublot’s campaign captures the dual essence of the Parisian star, probably the most decisive player today.

Mbappé also had a good time during the session he did for Hublot: “I am happy to have devoted myself during these work sessions to addressing man’s relationship with time. I like simplicity and beautiful things, which last and have a soul.”

Mbappé and Hublot have been collaborating since 2018, the year of the French footballer’s definitive explosion, with his key role in the World Cup-winning French national team. “Kylian is unanimously praised for his excellence on the field and his humility off it,” highlights Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe, “and it makes us very happy to have brought him together with a multidisciplinary artist like Ezra Petronio for this campaign.”
