The Chronomat holds a pivotal place in the brand’s modern history. Launched to mark Breitling’s centenary in 1984—at a time when quartz movements dominated—it represented a bold return to mechanical watches. It was born from a collaboration with the legendary Italian aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori. When the team requested an analog watch capable of withstanding the rigors of the cockpit while remaining elegant enough for formal events, Breitling developed the “Chronograph Frecce Tricolori.” This model laid the foundation for the Chronomat, which would follow a year later.
